Figural Edo period, (1603 1868), Japanese netsuke polychrome decoration, carved of wood, circa pre-1860’s.
Netsuke, in combination with Ojime beads, was used as fittings for Sagemono or Inro which had been worn on traditional Japanese Kimono.
In contemporary times, while they are still used on Kimono for traditional use and wear, they are mostly now worn as pendants, fastened as ornamental jewelry, or used as tabletop decor.
