This Chinese enamel box decorated with birds and flowers is dated to the 20th century.
This enamel box pays homage to the enamel work of the Qianlong period (1711-1799) of the Qing dynasty (1644-1912) as well as the Chinese influence in chinoiserie décor.
Decorated with two Kingfisher birds and orchids, a common theme in Chinese art, mythology, and Feng Shui, the Kingfisher is the symbol of beauty. Opposite the Kingfisher, orchid’s signify elegance and refinement.
The inside surface is decorated in robin’s egg blue. Well sized to contain trinkets, small items, or as an ornament for tabletop décor or used as a decorative accent.
