Product Summary: This original vintage sign is hand painted in the primitive American folk-art tradition of farmhouse décor.
Signs have a long tradition that dates back hundreds of years. Early American and continental European figural signs were developed to accommodate a mostly illiterate population. Trade signs are one of the most iconic forms of antique and vintage signs. Barbershop pole signs, optometrist and pharmacist trade signs, dental trade signs, clock repair signs, tobacco store signs, which displayed the prominent cigar store Indians and more contemporary examples such as retro-style neon light signs.
Vintage and antique signs are found in all varieties of material, from wood, porcelain, enamel on tin, neon, and cardboard.
Signs can also be decorated using a stencil, freehand, or use more sophisticated commercial printing and application techniques.
This example dates to the early 20th century, circa 1920s-1930s. It is an original one of a kind hand painted vintage example that does not appear to have had any restoration work performed on it.
